Hello, we have a 14 year old tortoise available for rehoming. Alphonsa is believed to be female and has had no health issues at all since we've owned her. She is currently based indoors but unfortunately due to a upcoming move we soon won't have enough room to house her and would love her to go somewhere where she gets more outdoor activity and more space in general.
We are based in Bedfordshire but willing to travel to the right new owner.

Re: Tortoise Available for Rehoming - Bedfordshire
Hi Dean.
Can I ask you if you know what species Alphonsa is and has she / he ever been to an exotic specialist vet that is trained to deal with tortoises?
How long have you had Alphonsa.
Has he/she had an injury to the end of the tail and can you send a photo of the opening in the tail for sexing purposes.
Can you tell me if the skin on the back legs are sloughing off. I can’t work that out so a few photos of that area would help, if you wouldn’t mind.
Regards
Lin

Hi Lin,
Many thanks for your response. We believe Alphonsa is a Hermann's and we have had her for around 13 years. She's been checked by a vet in the past but not by an exotic specialist vet as you mentioned.
I've attached some extra photos of the tail/leg area but please let me know if you need any more. As far as we know she has never had any tail issues or injuries or ever seemed in discomfort. The skin on the back legs is sloughing off currently which has happened at times over the years.
Kind regards,
Dean

The "presumed female" part fits the name and there have been no reports of egg laying problems (females can have problems with egg sticking). The lack of out-of-home vet visits is not a big deal - 13 years without problems says a lot. Shedding is normal unless you see something strange like sores or swelling.

Have you noticed any changes in Alphonsa's behavior or eating habits since the skin sloughing started?

Thanks for the comments! The are no sores or swelling at all and there has been no change in her behaviour or eating.

Hi Dean.
Are you still looking to rehome Alphonsa and have you moved yet.
If you’re still looking to rehome could you send me an email to contact@thetortoisetable.org.uk where I can send you the details I need privately. We are having a little trouble being notified about new posts.
