This is proving very difficult! I have spent hours trying to find out if Falkia repens is edible and I am still not sure, but I think I would err on the side of caution and say not to feed in large quantities but if Kika happens to nibble some in your garden then it is nothing to worry about.

I have searched and searched and the most I can find out is that several sites say that the plant is not toxic to humans, but if a lot is eaten it can cause digestive problems.

Another site said that many people have the plant in pots indoors because it is said to purify the air by absorbing toxic particles that contaminate the air. This would be a bit alarming because if the plant absorbs toxic chemicals and a tortoise eats the leaves then he would be eating the toxins too.

I did find one scientific article that analysed the chemical constituents of the plant and found that it contained pyrrolizidine alkaloids. We do know that eating large quantities of plants containing pyrrolizidine alkaloids can result in liver damage, but it would have to be large amounts.

Unfortunately very few scientific studies of plants are carried out in relation to their safety for reptiles, like tortoises, so it can be difficult to reach a conclusion. I think that on balance I probably wouldn't feed it, but I don't think that the odd leaf every now and then, just to add variety to Kika's diet would be harmful. Sorry that I can't be more definitive on this!
