Hello,
I decided to make this huge bag of food for my tortoise (collard greens, spring mix, carrots) and I added like around a quarter of a sweet potato. I chopped it up into little pieces and put it in the bag.
Do I have to cook it or anything or can I serve it raw?
Raw or cooked sweet potato?
Re: Raw or cooked sweet potato?
Hello
First of all what species of tortoise is this for? As every tortoise species has different diet requirements.
Regards Daniel.

How odd! I wrote a reply to this post yesterday, but it's not showing (I wonder if I forgot to click on 'Submit').
Anyway sorry to be so late, but what I said was that it is thoughtful of you to make a bag of food for your tortoise, and asked what species it was. I then pointed out that we don't recommend Sweet Potato as a food for tortoises and gave a link to our entry for it on our website: https://www.thetortoisetable.org.uk/pla ... nt=740&c=8
You can always look up any plant on our database here: https://www.thetortoisetable.org.uk and if you can't find the plant there, contact us and we'll research it and get back to you a.s.a.p.
Also, I'm not sure where you live, but in the UK there are still lots of plants growing outdoors (plantain, sowthistle, dandelion, campanula and more), and those are actually better for him than store bought veg like collard greens and spring mix -- although in the middle of winter when no fresh food from outdoors is available then it can be useful.
