Plant identification please

Use this forum for identification of plants and flowers found in the UK. To allow us to help provide accurate identification we need clear pictures of the whole plant, where it is growing and close up pictures of flowers, buds or seed heads if any available. It would also be useful to see pictures showing the leaf attached to the stem.

Hi Sheilaeh,

It's a bit difficult to ID it from just that photo. Can you tell me if it is a shrub, and if it is growing in a garden or in the wild? A close-up like that is good, but would it be possible to take another photo of it, from a little further away, so that we can see the whole shape of the plant as it comes out of the ground?

Thank you. It’s growing in a garden. About 4ft tall. It doesn’t seem to get any taller. Loses its leaves in the winter. I think it’s a shrub.

Thanks for the newest photo, and I'm sorry it's taken a while to get back to you. I'm still not sure but will ask my colleague, Lin, to come in and have a look and hopefully she can ID it.

Thank you. We did wonder if it was a variety of Willow as PlantSnap came up with that, but it didn’t really look like the photo

Hiya Sheilaeh.
This is a willow commonly called Goat Willow and as all of the Salix family it is not suitable for tortoises. Here is our link that does include Goat Willow in the common names.
